zero waste sg exec director pek hai lin moves on to sustainability role at grab - Zero Waste SG exec director Pek Hai Lin moves on to sustainability role at Grab

Pek Hai Lin, the executive director of Zero Waste SG, is moving on from the waste reduction non-government organisation after more than four years at the helm.

Pek took over the leadership of Zero Waste SG from founder Eugene Tay in 2017, initially as manager, rising to executive director in January 2020. The search is now on for her successor.

She is leaving to take on a short-term position in the sustainability team at Grab. The ride-hailing platform is working on a number of sustainability initiatives, including a plan to reduce its carbon footprint and electrify its delivery fleet.

Pek’s accomplishments at Zero Waste SG include the launch of the Bring Your Own Singapore, a movement that launched in 2017 to encourage Singapore residents to bring their own containers and avoid single-use plastic.

She said in a LinkedIn post on Friday that she had “mixed emotions” leaving the NGO, as she was “letting go of something rather precious”.

Pek moves on three months after the appointment of Jasmine Tuan to head up Zero Waste SG’s marketing.

Before joining Zero Waste SG, Pek worked as a teacher for six years. Among her roles in teaching was in environmental education.
