Bangkok,21January, 2019 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) celebrated the country’s latest achievement after it set a new Guinness World Record for the biggest ‘Mango Sticky Rice’ at 4,500 kilogrammes yesterday, breaking the previous record set in Dubai in 2016, at 2,800 kilogrammes.
The world’s biggest ‘Mango Sticky Rice’ initiative is part of the Thai government’s “We Care about You” push to increase arrivals from Mainland China during 2019.
“We are delighted by this impressive achievement that highlights Thailand’s iconic Mango Sticky Rice dessert that remains a favourite with Mainland Chinese visitors,” TAT Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, said. “TAT congratulates all involved, as we are very pleased to play our part in getting this achievement recognised.”
“Thousands of tourists travelled from China to Thailand to especially witness the “We Care about You” event that broke the Guinness World Records for the biggest Mango Sticky Rice dish”, said Ms. Thapanee Kiatpaiboon, Executive Director of the TAT’s Product Promotion Department.
The making of a large 4,500-kilogramme Mango Sticky Rice dish used 1,500 kilogrammes of long-grain sticky rice and 6,000 ripe mangos. The dessert was served during yesterday’s dinner that also highlighted other popular Thai dishes.
Initiated by the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand (NLA) through its committee overseeing religion, arts, culture and tourism, the event received support from members of the Thai general public and all concerned government agencies. It was also broadcast live via MCOT Thai TV and the National Assembly Radio plus appeared on online media in Mainland China.
According to Ms. Thapanee, TAT previously supported another successful Guinness World Record for the largest ‘Buffet’ on Ko Samui. The 2.5-kilometre-long beach buffet with 5,829 dishes was arranged on Chaweng Beach as part of the five-day Samui Festival 2017.
Bangkok, 11 December 2018 – Thailand’s tourism industry is organising a Guinness World Record attempt for the biggest ‘Mango Sticky Rice‘ at the “We Care About You” event, to be held on 20 January, 2019, at Lakeside, Muang Thong Thani in Greater Bangkok.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatpaiboon, Executive Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Product Promotion Department, said: “The record-breaking attempt will reinforce worldwide awareness about Mango Sticky Rice as a favourite Thai dessert and enhance Thailand’s positive image with mainland Chinese visitors.”
The National Legislative Assembly of Thailand (NLA) through its committee overseeing religion, arts, culture and tourism recently held a meeting with Thai tourism stakeholders in the public and private sectors to instigate a “Team Thailand” initiative. According to NLA President Mr. Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, the NLA should be another mechanism to help ensure the happiness of the Thai people. The NLA organised the “We Care About You” initiative because it recognises the recent sluggish growth in the number of tourist arrivals from China.
The “We Care About You” event is set to host over 10,000 tourists from China to join as witnesses for the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest ‘Mango Sticky Rice” dish. The previous record was in Dubai in 2016.
Thai singer Mimi Lee, who won a singing contest in China, will also attend the event and will bring thousands of her followers from China to witness the record-breaking attempt.
According to the NLA, the organising of the event has received overwhelming support from the general public and all concerned agencies of the Thai government. On 20 January, 2019, the event will be broadcast live via MCOT Thai TV and the National Assembly Radio plus appear on TBS via online media in China.
