sereepisuth alleges vote buying in lampangs constituency 4 by election - Sereepisuth alleges vote buying in Lampang’s Constituency 4 by-election

Thai Liberal party leader Sereepisuth Temeeyaves claimed today (Saturday) that he has evidence of vote buying by a candidate in the by-election in Constituency 4 of Lampang province, with voting scheduled to take place tomorrow.

The former national police chief was in Koh Kha district of this northern province today to campaign for his party’s candidate, Detthawee Srivichai.

He told the media, during a break in campaigning at Sala Meng market in Tha Pha sub-district, that the party had obtained evidence of vote buying, including a name card of the candidate in question.

He insisted, meanwhile, that his party will strictly comply with the election law and will not engage in electoral fraud.

He also said that he will submit all the evidence he has of election fraud to the Election Commission after the by-election tomorrow. He urged voters to use their judgement in selecting for whom they should vote.

During his visit to Sala Meng market, Sereepisuth was approached by several people who complained about their economic hardship and asked him for help.

The by-election will be a showdown between Detthawee of Thai Liberal party and former MP Wattana Sitthiwang of Palang Pracharath party, who is running under the New Economic party banner, of former deputy agriculture minister Thammanat Prompao.

There are 163,000 eligible voters in Constituency 4, which covers Ko Kha, Soem Ngam, Sop Phrap, Thoen and Mae Phrik districts.

The by-election was ordered by the Supreme Court’s Division for Election Cases after the Election Commission issued a yellow card to Wattana, resulting in the scrapping of the June 20th 2020 by-election in the constituency, but Wattana remains eligible to contest the election again.
