New COVID-19 records have been set almost every day over the past fortnight, as Thailand logged daily record high infections of 17,669 and a new daily death toll high of 165 today (Thursday July 29th).

Daily infections have climbed gradually, from 13,655 last Thursday to 16,533 yesterday, with slight drops on Saturday and Tuesday. The death toll was in the range of 87-113 per day, until today’s figure broke the previous record of 141 on July 17th. Total infections since, April 2021, are 532,167, while total deaths are 4,468, of the 4,562 fatalities since early last year.

A record 185,976 people are being treated in hospitals and field hospitals, 4,511 of whom are in a severe condition, with 1,001 on ventilators, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today.

Bangkok still has the most infections and deaths, with 3,963 cases and 58 deaths logged today. Cases in the capital account for 27.2% of all infections in the current wave.

Other provinces with the most infections are Samut Sakhon (1,172), Nakhon Pathom (984), Chon Buri (982), Samut Prakan (810), Nonthaburi (633), Chachoengsao (589), Rayong (394), Pathum Thani (313) and Udon Thani (303).

16.5 million vaccine doses have been administered to date, with 9.1 million people, or about 13% of the population, receiving only their first dose and 3.73 million people, or about 5.3% of the population, being fully vaccinated.
