Monkeys flight over yogurt thailand corona virus 1 - Monkeys Fight Over Food As Corona Virus Hits In Thailand

Monkeys Fight Over Fod As Corona Virus Hits In Thailand: The corona virus (COVID-19) out-break has left Phuket, and all Thailand’s hotels empty, its tour guides without work and its markets unusually quiet. The country’s wildlife may also now be noticing the lack of visitors.

A video filmed this week in Lopburi, north-east of Bangkok, showed large crowds of monkeys brawling in the streets, apparently fighting over a yoghurt pot. Residents in the city, which is famed for its monkey population, say the fall in tourist numbers means there are far fewer people offering food.

Each troop of monkeys has at least 500 members, according to Manad Vimuktipune of the Lopburi Monkey Foundation. They’ll steal anything, he said: “Colourful ornaments, caps, sunglasses.” There are fewer tourists in the city, he added, and there is not enough food being offered.

Simular situations have been seen around the world in humans while they panic buy and flight over toilet rolls, making it unclear which breed is smarter?

UPDATE (24/03/202): Thailand confirms 122 new coronavirus cases (Total at 721) and 3 more deaths. Phuket today reported 9 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus on the southern resort island of Phuket, bringing the total to 26, up from 17 yesterday.

Thialand has now enforce shop closures, but supermarkets will stay open. Five provinces neighbouring the Thai capital are now following suit and ordering the temporary closure of some shops and stores from today up to April 12. The five provinces are Samut Prakarn, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi and Pathumthani. The efforts are designed to slow the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus in and around Greater Bangkok.
