Statute of Luang Pho Cham at Wat Chalong in Phuket to be demolished
The 30-metre high statute of Luang Pho Cham, a revered and respected monk in the south who passed away over a century ago, was demolished. The demolition of the statute at Wat Chalong in Phuket was decided yesterday by the Wat Phra Bang Sang development committee following complaint and criticism on the social media that it was disproportionate. Director of Phuket National Office of Buddhism Mr Winya Paladkwa said after the demolition of the statute, the Phuket Office of Public Works, Town and Country Planning would work out a blueprint to improve the landscape of areas around the temple, excluding areas which had been registered by the Department of Fine Arts. The improvement would take time as so far there were no improvement yet on the structures inside the temple, he said.
