Premchai’s hunting party sought permission to visit game sanctuary to “study nature”
Italian-Thai Development boss Premchai Karnasuta and three members of his hunting party sought permission from the Office of Wildlife Conservation to camp out at the Thung Yai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary during Feb 3-5, claiming they wanted to study nature there, said Ms Kanchana Nittaya, director of the office, at a press conference held today (Feb 6) at the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation (DNP). But, however, on Feb 4 Sunday, she said officials found out that the group did not study nature as they claimed, but brought firearms into the game sanctuary without permission, pitched their camp at a different site from the one specified by the officials and defied the officials’ order to move out to the original site. Ms Kanchana explained that, unlike national parks, a wildlife sanctuary is off-limits to tourists. But Mr Premchai’s group asked to get into Thung Yai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary...
