OAG officials to help in probing plunder of fund for the destitute
Officials of the Office of the Auditor-General will be asked to help the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission in the investigation of widespread corruption in the centres for the protection of the destitute. The PACC board has set up panels to probe corrupt practices in five more provincial centres in Bueng Kan, Nong Khai, Nan, Surat Thani and Trat in addition to the centres in Khon Kaen and Chiang Mai where investigation has been going on. It was reported that inspectors from the PACC had, so far, uncovered suspected irregularities concerning the disbursement of fund to the destitute in 28 provincial centresใ The alleged corrupt practices include: the use of dead people’s names to claim handouts from the centre; use the names of people from other projects to claim allowance without their consent or acknowledgement; use the names of people who are not qualified to receive the allowance; falsifying the names...
