Minimum wage to rise 5 to 22 baht, effective April 1
The National Wage Committee yesterday (Jan 17) agreed to increase minimum wage between 5 and 22 baht a day after almost seven hours of meeting. Mr Jarin Jakkaphark The daily minimum wage increase was revealed by Mr Jarin Jakkaphark, permanent secretary for Labour chairing the tripartite wage committee. The committee agreed that the new minimum wage will take effect April 1 if it gets approval from the cabinet at its meeting next week. He said the wage increase of 5-22 baht was split in seven rates, varying with locations where workers are employed. Getting the highest increase are Phuket, Chonburi and Rayong where the new minimum wage will be 330 baht from earlier 310 baht, and the lowest increase are Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat from 300 baht last year to 308 baht.
