High waves and strong wind force coastal villagers to evacuate to safety
Strong wind and unusually high waves have lashed the shoreline of Songkhla’s Singhanakhon district, forcing several families to evacuate from their coastal houses deeper inland for safety. One of the villagers of the coastal community told the media that he had never seen such high and ferocious waves in his lifetime as he described the waves as high as four metres pounding the coast throughout today (Feb 4) amidst the howling wind. Some of the villagers of Village 1, Tambon Hua Khao, tried to salvage the roof tiles from their precarious houses battered by the strong waves and about to collapse any time soon. Some houses which were located close to the sea have already been flattened by the waves.
