Bangkok residents warned: Weather could lead to rise in dengue fever

Daily News reported that the Bangkok Metropolitan Association were warning residents in the capital about the possibility of contracting three diseases related to mosquitoes.  The diseases are dengue fever, the Zika virus and the Chikungunya virus that is associated with fever and joint pain.  Unseasonal weather with accompanying rain has made conditions ideal for mozzies.  Deputy governor Thaweesak Lertpraphan said that out of 80,650 cases of dengue fever some 8,345 had occurred in Bangkok. (Daily News did not report what time frame these figures referred to). Areas of the city most at risk from dengue are Din Daeng, Beung Kum, Bang Na and Lat Prao. There had been 129 cases of Zika Virus in the capital out of 573 nationwide. Areas most hit were Bangkapi and Taling Chan. Zika often has no symptoms but has been known to cause death.
